Miles Pulsford

Founder · Downing College

As a Veterinary Medicine student at Downing College, Cambridge, I understand exactly what admissions boards are looking for. I founded The Paddock Group to help brilliant applicants structure their reasoning, master aptitude tests, and handle the unique pressure of an Oxbridge interview. My approach focuses on clear, evidenced thinking that holds up under scrutiny, both on the page and in person. To provide the most robust preparation, I lead a team of experienced Oxbridge tutors who bring diverse subject expertise to our mock interviews and mentorship sessions, ensuring every candidate benefits from a range of academic perspectives.

Our process

The Admissions Blueprint

A single, sequential programme that takes a candidate from a raw academic profile to a fully rehearsed, interview-ready applicant. Each phase builds directly on the last — nothing generic, and nothing left to the day itself.

01 Phase One

Profile & Personal Statement Mentorship

We begin with a comprehensive review of the candidate’s academic profile, core reading, and relevant work experience. From there, we help them structure a focused, evidence-backed personal statement that replaces generic clichés with authentic academic depth, specifically tailored to capture the attention of university admissions tutors.

02 Phase Two

Admissions Test Mastery ESAT & STEM Aptitude

We provide targeted strategy and timed execution practice for rigorous competitive entrance exams. Moving beyond surface-level textbook knowledge, we teach candidates the advanced analytical problem-solving frameworks required to score exceptionally under real test-day pressure.

03 Phase Three

The Oxbridge Mock Interview Circuit

We replicate the exact environment and logic of an Oxbridge technical interview. Candidates practice working through unfamiliar, complex problems out loud, learning how to present a structured scientific hypothesis and respond constructively when their reasoning is challenged under scrutiny.

04 Phase Four

Specialised Vet MB Consultations

A dedicated module built specifically for veterinary applicants, drawing directly on our firsthand experience at Downing College. We guide students through clinical problem-solving logic, ethical scenarios, and the specific communication standards expected by Vet MB interview boards.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you guarantee admission?

No, and no consultancy honestly can. Admissions decisions rest solely with the university. What we do provide is a rigorous, evidence-based preparation process: a sharper personal statement, stronger test technique, and interview practice modelled directly on real Oxbridge conditions, so that a candidate's genuine ability is presented as clearly as possible.

Who are your tutors?

The Paddock Group is led by Miles, supported by a small team of current Oxbridge students and graduates across Medicine, Natural Sciences, and related STEM fields. Every tutor has been through the exact admissions process they now teach.

How do the sessions work?

All sessions are conducted online via video call, giving candidates flexibility regardless of location. Each phase combines live one-to-one sessions with written feedback on submitted work, test practice, and mock interview performance.

When is the best time to start?

We recommend beginning in the summer before your application year, which allows time to build a personal statement, prepare for admissions tests, and rehearse interview technique without rushing. That said, we work with candidates at every stage, including those starting later in the cycle.
